A gate with a big storm in the background.
My name is Michel van Rossum, and I am an EDM photographer from Eindhoven in The Netherlands. I specialize in event photography on Electronic Dance Music festivals. This is no conincidence, ever since I was young I have been listening to various kinds of electronic dance music. Wether it was trance, house or hardstyle music. Then when I became older I started visiting large dance events in The Netherlands such as Trance Energy and Qlimax. I was amazed by the magnitude of these events and the people that visited them.
During my bachelor study ICT & Media Design I attended a class about photography. I decided to buy myself a DSLR and practice photography more often. I discovered that I really liked capturing photo’s and I wanted to get better at it.
At this point I noticed there were always photographers at the events I visited. That is when I applied to become a photographer at Dancegids.nl. I visited many events with my camera and got better at taking photo’s in dark clubs and venues. As my skills improved so did my camera gear, and what had started as a fun hobby quickly evolved into something bigger.
In 2011 I started my own company Rossumedia. Nowadays I photograph for dance organisations throughout The Netherlands and Belgium. I love being able to combine two passions of mine: Photography & Music. And every event is different and has it’s own challenges. Also meeting people from around the world has given me many friendships that are only getting stronger
