Tree roots and the flow of time

An old tree is firmly rooted in the ground. The organic forms of its powerful roots form a complex network that connects the world above and below the earth. A staircase bears witness to the influence of humankind, which leaves its mark on nature.

In the heart of the forest, I am particularly fascinated by those places where a tree grows over a long period of time, whilst the world around it is constantly changing. But the tree, as a living being, is also subject to constant development and interacts subtly with its surroundings. In this sense, the drawing is also influenced by thoughts on change and the cycle of creation, existence and decay in nature. The steps represent time and the ageing process.

Trees, with their elegant roots and branches, symbolise a strong connection to the earth, to nature and to the subconscious. In this sense, they can inspire people to listen to their inner voice and trust their intuition. They also remind us of how important it is to become aware of our own roots.

Using fine lines and subtle shading, I aim to emphasise the effects of light and shadow, as well as the delicate connections and flowing energy found in nature. Trees form a link between the visible world above the earth and the hidden world beneath it. They connect light with darkness, the visible with the invisible.
