Where the horizon ends

An endless sea stretches out beneath a cloudy sky in cool shades of blue, softly illuminated by a hidden light source that seems to lie just behind the mist. The surface of the water glistens subtly, like fine silver dots moving to the rhythm of the waves. The horizon is barely visible; sky and water merge into one fluid whole, giving the work a tranquil and dreamlike character. The layering of the sea – from deep navy blue in the foreground to light azure in the distance – creates a sense of depth and calm. The waves are gentle and rhythmic, more of a whisper than a threat. The air above is thick with atmosphere, with vague brushstrokes reminiscent of mist or rising morning fog. What is remarkable is the way in which light and dark do not fight each other, but are in balance. It is a composition in which nothing dominates, but everything flows together into a meditative silence. As if the sea is breathing and waiting.
