About the artwork

Bumble Bee on Thistle - I can't tell if this is a femal or male bumbple bee on this thristle. It was minding their own business when I came along.

The thrisle is growing behind our shed close to some tomato plants we planted. I was back there to check the tomatoes when I noticed the bumble bee activities around the Thristle flowers. I focused on the bumple bee to capture her feeding. This picture I took just before she turned to me and very obviously took notice.

The bumble bee is native to North America and is a social bee. They are multi generational, devide tasks and only live anually. Only the newly hatched queens survive to start anew the following year. They are quite flexible to where they set up their nest using abandoned bird and todens nest as well as empty cavities in wood.

The bumble bee forages for food from Febrary to about November. We make sure to grow plants in our garden so support them year around. I photographed this bumbple bee at birds-eye view showing the light lavender color thristle flower in soft focus and the head of the bumplebee as main subject in full focus. The background is a soft range of greens.
