About ‘Storm at Westkapelle’ by Sander Poppe

During the first autumn storm of 2020, the characteristic Zeeland landscape near Westkapelle showed its most impressive side. Dark clouds gathered over the North Sea, while strong gusts of wind and breaking waves pounded against the row of wooden posts. The sea raged and showed how much power and calm nature can give at the same time.

Especially at such times, when life feels momentarily heavy due to corona time, for example, Westkapelle beach offers an outlet. The fresh sea air, the sound of the waves and the wind through your hair provide a sense of freedom and recovery. I took this photo during a brief but bright downpour, where the foreground is razor-sharp and the background has taken on a soft, misty appearance. This creates a special atmosphere that perfectly captures the power and mystique of the autumn storm.

It is always an experience to walk along the dyke at Westkapelle with a strong breeze and watch the spectacle of the wild waves. Westkapelle is the place to be for nature lovers, photographers and anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Zeeland's coast in every season.
