Cologne Cathedral rises above the rooftops of the city as it always has, but at this moment it seems almost reborn. The fresh LED lighting makes the intricate details of its Gothic façade appear with unusual clarity. No harsh glare, but a sophisticated interplay of light and shadow that emphasises the depth of the building, as if it were telling its own story - of centuries of faith, art and history.
To the right of it, the arch of the Hohenzollern Bridge stretches into the picture, also softly lit. It appears like a calm counterpart to the towering cathedral: functional, rhythmic, yet full of symbolism. The lights trace its contours, almost as if it wants to match the splendour of the cathedral. Trains rush over it, quietly and constantly, while love locks reflect in the light.
A special moment is created between these two buildings - the one that reaches for the sky and the one that connects them. The city reveals itself in a different light, both literally and figuratively. It is Cologne as we know it, and yet it feels like a first time.
