About the artwork

Auburn Super Charged Speedster
THE WORLD'S FASTEST STOCK CAR
1935 Advertising/advertising in USA

For 1935 Gordon Boehrig and Augie Duesenberg were commissioned to create a completely new design and engine for the Auburn 851. Starting point was a V-12 Speedster, which got a completely new front end, rear end and hood in the style of a very low convertible. The already existing 6-cylinder got two more cylinders in combination with a Schwitzer-Cummings compressor, instead of 115 hp there was now 150 hp under the long bonnet. In addition, the body was fitted with teardrop headlights, chromed exhaust pipes, pontoon fenders and a newly designed radiator grille with the "Winged Man" as a radiator mascot on top.
But especially the boattail design of the speedster is cult today and makes it all the more desirable. Three decades later, it was repeated in the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (1963-1967) and the Buick Rivera (1971-1973).
