Bison is a genus in the family of the Hollowhornigen (Bovidae) in the order of Even-toed Angles. This genus includes six species of large cloven-hoofed mammals. Two species still exist: the American bison (Bison bison) and the European bison (Bison bonasus).
This three-metre long animal has real horns, which are composed of a leg pit with a horn sheath over it, in a single upright shape. They are present in both sexes. Sexually mature bulls use their horns for fighting as well as for showing off in relation to the opposite sex. The lower jaw contains spatula-like incisors, which are missing in the upper jaw. The molars are highly curved.
