About ‘Black Humour: The Last Laugh’ by Retrotimes

This bold and provocative artwork treads the fine line between satire and discomfort. In a raw, industrial-looking space, a prisoner sits relaxed in an electric chair, seemingly unfazed by his situation. Beside him stand a clergyman and a guard, both strikingly relaxed, whilst in the background an unexpected guest—Death himself—enters the scene carrying a bucket of water. What follows is not a tragedy, but an absurd play in which the gravity of the moment is completely undermined.

The power of this work lies in the contrast. Whilst the setting is laden with gravity and finality, an almost light-hearted, ironic atmosphere prevails here. The smiling faces and the bizarre intervention of Death make it clear that this is not a realistic depiction, but a sharp, visual commentary on power, rituals and our dealings with the inevitable.

The composition is rich in detail and invites a closer look. Every element contributes to the narrative: from the aged tiles to the mechanical switches and the theatrical lighting. The whole feels like a scene from a dark comedy in which the roles are deliberately exaggerated.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
