This artwork is about the struggle between nature and encroaching industry, with the child in between. The child that has to adapt to its environment and always does, without effort, without resistance.
It is not a struggle for the child. The child merges into his environment and makes it his own, as if it has to be that way.
I think the recurring themes in my portfolio are very relevant now more than ever. My art depicts the current state of the world and how our children grow up in an often unjust and deteriorating environment. Yet the very ability of children to transcend difficult situations and find joy and light in the darkest of environments is the much-needed hope for the future. Sustainability is also integrated into my works through the materials I use. Most of these materials are reused for my artworks.
I remembered that as a young girl I so much liked to cut images from magazines to paste them into school agendas, scrapbooks and even on my bedroom door. Add to this the fascination I always had for walls filled with old posters, flaking paint, scrappy billboards.. Read more…
