The Chevrolet Corvette was the ultimate "America's Sports Car" at the time and was introduced in the summer of 1962 as the second-generation Sting Ray (only the C3 was offered as the Stingray in one word). The initial design came from Bill Mitchell, then elaborated by Larry Shinoda and Anatole Lapine. Equipped for the first time in 1965 with "big block" V8 engines, initially with 6.5 litres and from 1966 with even 7.0 litres displacement and of course enormous torque, which is good for motorsport and Zora Arkus-Duntov, who made them even faster for the circuit and accordingly successful. These C2 Z06s were the same on the outside, but the inner values made them 50% more expensive and so only 199 buyers opted for them.

More popular today is the Corvette C2 "Split Window" with its split rear window, of which only around 10,600 were built in 1963. At the time, it was unpopular because of its poor rear visibility. In addition, Zora Arkus-Duntov did not like it from the outset due to poor rear visibility in motorsport and it was too expensive to produce, which is why it was later only produced in one piece. A total of 117,964 units were built between September 1962 and July 1967, 45,546 of which were coupés and, as was customary at the time, every year, but this time with only minor exterior changes and a correspondingly changing choice of engines.
