The sun rises slowly behind the Kop van Zuid. In the morning of Christmas Day it was as if there was a silent blanket over the normally so busy city of Rotterdam. Although it was very cold it was enjoying the feeling that the city was ours. In the residential flats on the Kop van Zuid you can see the first hustle and bustle because of the many lights on.
To get the water of the Nieuwe-Maas nice and smooth a long shutter speed was used. This helps to emphasize the feeling of tranquillity in the photo.
My work exists at the intersection of modern Pop Art and Expressionism, with influences from Modernism. Contrast, whether in light, color, or subject, plays a central role in my art. The color red is often prominently featured.
