With its light blue steel, pylon that rises 139 meters into the air and row of 40 steel cables across the water, the 800-meter-long Erasmus Bridge is a striking structure. The bridge's unusual shape is reminiscent of a swan. Thus, popularly, the Erasmus Bridge is affectionately called the Swan. The bridge was designed by Ben van Berkel and was officially opened in 1996 by the then Queen Beatrix.
