I came across this combination of horse and team when I was walking through the Vijlenerbos, South Limburg, the Netherlands. In the background people can be seen walking, in the foreground the horse with team. The autumn colors completed the picture and provided a beautiful and atmospheric autumn picture.
The Vijlenerbos is an approx. 650 ha forest and nature reserve near the town of Vijlen in the Dutch-Limburg municipality of Vaals. Small parts of the Belgian municipality of Blieberg lie at the southern edge of the forest. The Vijlenerbos actually consists of several forests, all of which are owned by Staatsbosbeheer; it is therefore sometimes referred to as the Vijlenerbossen.
The Vijlenerbos is an elongated forest area that extends over a length of approximately 8 km between Epen and the Drielandenpunt at Vaals. The forest borders on a length of about 5 km to Belgium and about 1 km to Germany. Sub-areas of the forest are usually named after villages and hamlets in the vicinity. From west to east: the Elzetterbos (near Elzet and Rott), the actual Vijlenerbos, the Kerperbos, the Holsetterbos (near Holset), the Malensbos (south of the Epenerbaan), the Schimperbos (southwest of Wolfhaag) and the also wooded Vaalserberg. The Vaalserberg links up with comparable hillside forests, such as the Aachener Wald and the Preusbos, on both Belgian and German territory. Together these forests are referred to as the Three-Country Forest.
