Geese are large, heavily built waterfowl in the family Anatidae (swans, geese and ducks). Within this, they belong to the subfamily Anserinae (swans and geese). Geese specialise in grazing and live more on land than other Anatidae. To do so, they have strong, rather long legs, which are placed in the middle of the body. This allows them to walk well. Two genera live in Europe: Anser (Grey Geese) and Branta (Black and White Geese).
The word goose is also used for a female goose. The male is called goose, gent or gander. source wikipedia
