About ‘Maas Bridge with an orange sky’ by Nop Briex

The Sint Servaasbrug, known as the Maasbrug until 1932 and colloquially referred to as the ‘old bridge’ (in the Maastricht dialect: aw brögk), is a stone arch bridge originally dating from the 13th century, spanning the River Meuse in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The bridge is named after the 4th-century Bishop of Maastricht, Saint Servatius, but did not receive its current name until 1932; before that, it was simply ‘the bridge’, officially known as the Maasbrug. The Sint Servaasbrug is considered the oldest bridge in the Netherlands and an icon of the city of Maastricht. The structure is a listed building.
