A courtyard of a traditional Persian merchant house in Kashan in Iran. Kashan is a medium-sized desert city on the Silk Road in Iran. The city is in an oasis. This merchant house has the construction of typical old Persian architecture. The buildings are light in color. We took this photo during our trip through Iran during Nowruz. Nowruz means 'new day' and is the Persian New Year. This coincides with the onset of spring on March 21. The people then have two weeks off and go to visit relatives throughout the country. It is therefore very busy everywhere. Iran is a beautiful travel destination where very friendly and helpful people live. This photo is executed in light pastel color tones such as beige and white and gives a good idea of what Persian architecture looks like.
