Designed by Ferry Porsche, son of Ferdinand Porsche in 1948, Gmünd – Austria, where the family has moved to during World War II. The first model was fabricated with an alloy body. In 1950 production was transferred to the German city of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The production of the 356 model ended in 1965 and was succeeded by the Porsch 911.
