It began as an outlet to take a breather.
When you spend a lot of time with books and theory, you get to know the world primarily through thought. For me, photography is the moment when my mind is allowed to take a break. You can switch off, take a deep breath and simply look properly again.
For me, the camera isn’t a tool of the trade, but the reason to go through life with more open eyes. Whether I’m strolling through the streets of Bayreuth or travelling: the search for the next subject is simply fun. It’s the joy of suddenly discovering perfect symmetry in architecture whilst going about my daily life, of sensing the stillness in a sacred space, or of capturing the delicate detail of a plant.
Ultimately, it’s not about the technically perfect image for a gallery, but about the fun of experimenting and the stories my pictures tell.
I take photographs because it does me good. And I’d be delighted if, whilst looking through my pictures, you could take a little of that joy and tranquillity with you.
