My name is Chris van Dijke, I was born in Rotterdam. I started taking pictures at a young age, and so I once started with an analogue camera in black and white. I developed the negatives in pitch darkness and printed them in my DoKa (Darkroom). In the beginning of 2000 I started with digital photography. I like to photograph in nature and cities, but have always had an eye for street photography as well.
When I go out I almost always take my camera with me. I often don't have a specific goal in mind. I see the subjects I encounter with a compositional eye. As soon as I see a subject that appeals to me, I point my camera at it.
Street photography to me means photographing people as I see them at that moment. I certainly don't try to draw attention to them. In these moments, I photograph freehand and rarely looking through the lens. With a wide-angle lens, I have the best chance of success.
