About Jaap Tanis

"Everything has its own beauty, but not everyone always sees it".

I am an amateur photographer with a passion for capturing the beauty I encounter in images. I don’t travel the world to do this; I simply go outside. Sometimes with a plan, sometimes without, and often I simply let myself be surprised by what I come across.

I find images with a painterly quality beautiful because of their richer colours, softness and tranquillity. Irregularities, harsh textures and/or details are then less visible, or not visible at all.

I also let myself be surprised and inspired by other image-makers. You’re never too old to learn, and after all, there’s so much we can learn from one another.

I like it when my images aren’t just on my computer, but also in people’s homes, at work or elsewhere.
