About Jeroen Kooren

My name is Jeroen Kooren, a photographer from Deventer. My work almost always begins on the street – during a long walk or simply on a trip to the shops. And then, when something seemingly insignificant catches my eye, I stop, grab my camera and take a photo.

My background in graffiti has changed the way I look at my surroundings. I love the rough edges of a city. I’ve developed an eye for imperfections. I see letters as shapes. It has shaped my perspective.

The result is ‘Observations’, an ongoing photo series of things that 99.9% of people walk right past. Poetic, absurd or abstract. Sometimes straightforward, sometimes tongue-in-cheek.

I graduated from ArtEZ in Zwolle in 2016 with a degree in Art & Design. In 2017, my work was selected for GUP New Dutch Photo Talent.

The work is best viewed as a series of three or more pieces displayed side by side. I prefer photographic paper, neatly framed without a mat, or Dibond for larger formats. Are you unsure about a combination, format or cropping? Feel free to send me a message; I’d be happy to help you decide.
