About Lisa Van Quickelberghe
The sculptures I create arise from a combination of experiences, impressions, dreams and coincidences. I often start without knowing exactly where I’ll end up. As I work, forms and connections emerge which, in turn, inspire further ideas. It feels as though the sculpture is trying to convey something to me, rather than the other way round.
I love sculptures that are playful and light, yet possess something elusive. There doesn’t need to be a single, clear meaning. It is precisely the space to discover something for oneself that makes a sculpture interesting to me.
My work doesn’t need to be explained. It’s simply meant to evoke something in you: a memory, a feeling or an association. If the sculpture continues to intrigue on its own, then for me it’s a success.
