About 30 years ago, I came home to Provence. The desire to paint arose from the need to express the overwhelming impressions of light and colour.
Painting lessons at Ars Aemula Natura and the Nieuwe Kunstschool in Leiden brought me to my way of working. Layer by layer, combinations of acrylic paint, collage and chalk, often with palette knife. The soul directs the brush, but the eye registers and seeks balance between colour and composition.
Houses in the landscape are a recurring theme. They intrigue me and symbolise coming home. A "home" I wish for everyone.
I am very happy to live for a large part of the year in Vinsobres (Drôme Provençale), where my studio is located.
