About Mariona Sinia

Drawing has been my passion and flight since childhood. After pabo and art school, I started working as a designer (including part-time with the Salvation Army) and as an illustrator with children's book publishers (Mistletoe, Kok Educatief and Ark Books). I also taught and teach part-time at a Pabo in Visual Education. Due to family and intensive teaching work, I stopped my design and illustrator work. In my spare moments, I kept sketching, designing, also on commission (such as logos). Now that the children are older, I can pick up that thread again. All my spare time sketches turn out to be for a reason, they are a source of new projects.

I love graphic techniques, line and plane. David Hockney was my great example. Meanwhile, there are new artists following in his footsteps that I now find inspiring.
I sketch whenever I have a moment alone, even in the train. Then I relax and experience the connection with nature or the object. I am then intensely grateful that I can create and enjoy beautiful pens, colourful paint, markers, pencils or new techniques. Recently learned how to etch a Tojoba plate in Arnhem and want to discover much more. Printmaking suits me well but is labour-intensive. I also find AI very interesting.
Some of my latest work can be found on Instagram, but there is still a lot unposted. Have only just started doing that too. You can see my old work at the link in BIO. And oh yes, I love to travel!
