I am Mayon Middeljans, an illustrator from Emmen with a passion for children's books. In 2012 I graduated from the art academy Minerva in Groningen. Since then I work as a freelance illustrator.
My style is characterized by unusual colour combinations, surprising details and a touch of nostalgia. I prefer colorful hand-painted watercolors. This way I create self-willed illustrations with a lot of imagination.
My work stems from the desire to be able to look at the world as much as children do. Children take an open look at the world around them and experience everything much more intensely. I prefer to illustrate for children.
What appeals to me is not so much the everyday, but stories that are not bound to time and that are about universal human motives. I hope that my stories are as timeless as the stories of the Brothers Grimm.
