I am a photographic artist from Amsterdam, with strong ties to Greece where I have lived for an extended period of time. My work combines conceptual ideas, storytelling and surrealism, using photography and digital image processing.
I find my inspiration in Greek mythology, the Dutch masters and in symbols that have great significance for me both culturally and personally. Delftware, the colour orange and the tulip form a recurring thread. With these, I create images that balance between recognition and alienation, and invite reflection and imagination.
Photography runs like a thread through my life. At the age of five, I got my first camera, a Rollei B35, with which my father taught me how to look and create. Since then, the lens has been my means of telling stories. Where I used to work in the darkroom, I now use digital techniques such as Photoshop, in combination with my Nikon camera.
After studying at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, I worked as an art teacher for thirteen years. In my current work, I consciously play with perception: often an image gives the impression that it is painted, while in reality it is photographed.
