Souls of Art Portraits - Portraits with a Soul
My name is Paula Collewijn, born in 1978, the year of Het Paard, and self-taught artist. The making of the artworks I taught myself, a beautiful and interesting journey to make. Art is a reflection of the soul of the artist. My specialization is painting, drawing and sculpting animals and people.
I make drawings and paintings in various sizes, styles and techniques.
For example with pastel, pencil, charcoal sepia and oil paint. In oil I make both works in a realistic style but also more expressive work. I also make abstract work. I find it important that the work comes to life and radiates a feeling. A feeling that goes beyond an image, an inspiration. The animal is central to my work and the "spirit" of the animal completes the canvas, a mixture of the soul of the animal and my own emotional experience.
The title with which I describe my work is Souls of Art, the soul captured through the form of Art.
Eyes to me are the mirrors of the soul and therefore I put an intense reflection in them from which the character of the animal "speaks" in a natural way.
Often I receive beautiful compliments that my work has more to convey behind the image. That is what I stand for, that the portraits convey something. This is my contribution to our world. Out of love for animals and artistry.
