RIA VAN MEIJEREN
After a car accident in 1987, my life turned 180 degrees, from being an all-rounder to being almost unable to do anything.
Forced to go inside, spirituality began to play an increasingly larger role in my life.
I soon began to fill in my free time with drawing and painting. For this I had bought a course from Teleac, which you could do at home, there were also broadcasts on TV.
Fortunately Kees de Jong came my way and I followed courses with him in the community center.
After that I took lessons at the Free Academy, drawing, portrait and model drawing/painting, ceramic hand shaping and portrait and model modeling.
I took lessons in drawing at Mercurius Havo and art appreciation at Zadkine.
Finally I went to the Willem de Kooning academy and took classes in idea drawing and graphics.
In the beginning of my painting career I painted all kinds of subjects, my first group exhibition was in 1988 during the opening of the library in Capelle Schollevaar.
After a few years I started to focus on 1 theme, first I painted fish, my star sign, then flowers and after that I specialized in roses. In between I made excursions to spiritual works, finally I now paint mainly symbolistical works.
In my paintings I represent what touches me, what occupies me, my development as a human being, my life.
