My biggest hobby is still playing outdoors. Even as a child, I used to write that in my classmates’ friendship books, and actually, not much has changed since then. It’s just that playing outdoors looks a bit different these days than it used to.
Whereas it used to be all about playing football in the park or tag in the school playground, I now prefer to spend as much time as possible in nature. In the mountains, along the coast or somewhere far away where the landscape still feels vast and unspoilt. Often with a snowboard or surfboard in tow, but almost always with a camera.
For me, photography is a way of capturing those moments outdoors. The silence of a mountain lake in the early morning, a hiker looking tiny against a massive mountain face, or the light falling just right through a rock arch in the desert. These are moments of adventure and wonder that I try to capture in images.
When I can combine my love of playing outdoors with photography, it feels as though everything comes together. And to be honest, it still feels a bit like it used to, only the playground has become a lot bigger.
