A Portrait of Dachshunds by KRAB

He looks to one side. As if he has heard something but hasn’t yet decided whether it’s worth his attention. That’s a dachshund.

A young specimen in three-quarter profile, black, white and rust-brown, set against a background of grey layers of paint and scarlet splashes that burst forth like energy that has found no outlet. The painterly treatment is graphic and direct: sharp contours, flat colour, a background that moves whilst the dog remains completely still. The contrast between that stillness and that restlessness is precisely what makes this work so intriguing.

This is not a decorative portrait of a dog. This is a statement. Ideally suited to a modern living room, a creative workspace or a hallway that immediately makes it clear who lives there, in an urban, industrial or eclectic interior where art is allowed to make a statement.

The square format works powerfully as a standalone centrepiece or alongside other graphic works. On HD Metal, the graphic character comes into its own most clearly; on Aluminium Dibond, it takes on the power of an editorial image. A special gift for dachshund owners and anyone who loves dogs that have more character than they let on. Digital art by Karina Brouwer — created in Delft, available to order via Werk aan de Muur.
