About "A Rolls Royce Phantom Jonkheere From 1935"

About the artwork

A 1936 Rolls Royce Phantom Jonkheere was the first production car designed by the company. Its design was inspired by aerodynamic designs by Joseph Figoni and Jacques Saoutchik. The streamlined silhouette of the Jonckheere was achieved by repositioning the vertical grill and adding bullet-shaped headlights. The windshield was also steeply raked.

The body of the Jonckheere car was created by a Belgian factory near Roeselare. This company started building automobiles in 1902 and was already producing bus bodies in the 1930s. The company is still operating today as VDL Jonckheere. Regardless of its history, the company is known for the high standard of craftsmanship. Even the Phantom's name has changed, but the same spirit and heritage are present.

The Jonckheere was the first luxury automobile. It was designed by a company near Roeselare in Belgium. The company's first luxury car, the Phantom, was built here. By the 1930s, the company had branched out to produce bus bodies. It is still in operation as VDL Jonckheere. The car's body is more or less identical to the earlier Phantom.

A 1924 Rolls Royce Phantom or with convertible body by Hooper was commissioned by a Detroit-based American lady, who was not interested in having one built in the United States. After the aforementioned car was purchased, it was sent to the Belgian Jonckheere brothers. The Jonckheere brother's hand-crafted the car's body, and records of the process were destroyed during World War II.
