A small rowing boat lies motionless on the mirror-smooth water of the Oosterschelde estuary in Zeeland as the sun has just disappeared below the horizon. The surface of the water is a large mirror which reflects the beautiful warm and cool colours of the sunset.
Only in windless weather was it possible to take this photo. Every breath of wind would have caused the boat to move, resulting in blur.
For me, this photo brings together everything I love as a landscape photographer. Minimalist landscapes, soft pastel colours and a wonderful feeling of freedom and stillness.
It was an evening to remember. Lovely warm summer temperatures, the tide slowly rising and I was up to my knees in the rising water enjoying the sunset. No sound, no disturbance. Just me and the elements.
