About ‘A farrier at work’ by anne droogsma

An unexpected encounter during a holiday in France. At the B&&&B where we were staying, there was also a group of holidaymakers with horses. One of the horses needed a farrier, and as you don’t see that sort of thing every day, I was quick to grab my camera. With great care, the horseshoe was heated until it was red-hot, and whilst it cooled, it was expertly hammered onto the horse’s hoof. No, the horse felt no pain but was happily munching from a bucket of grain and occasionally looked over with interest. This is a skilled craft that you don’t see very often in public life these days, whereas in the past every self-respecting person had a farrier.
