Found on the Maashorst. This is an oak tree that amputates its own branches. Why? The Oak is standing on soil that lacks sufficient nutrients. The tree is going to limit its own growth. Branches simply need to be fed and if you can shed them, you limit the sap flow and the Oak can extend its life until perhaps times come when the tree can be fed.
In the case of this oak, this has a special consequence, the branches have disappeared and the oak has turned them into two breasts, a handful!
