About ‘A tranquil sunset’ by SR Blaauw

Along a tranquil coastline, jagged granite boulders are scattered across the beach and in the calm waters. The sun hangs low above the horizon, casting a soft beam of light across the sea, whilst the water, thanks to a long exposure time, takes on an almost silky appearance. The rocks stand out sharply against the soft hues of the sky and water, lending the image both power and serenity.

Whilst taking this photograph, I was struck by the contrast between the rugged stones and the still sea. For a moment, the landscape seemed to stand still. It was precisely that moment – when the first or last rays of sunlight touch the coast and all movement seems to vanish from the water – that inspired this work. The combination of a natural composition and a long exposure creates a timeless quality.

For me, this photograph is about tranquillity and balance. The solid forms of the rocks symbolise steadfastness, whilst the gentle water invites you to let go and make space for new thoughts. It is an image that appeals to lovers of nature, coastal landscapes and minimalist beauty.

In an interior, this piece brings light, depth and a sense of space. The warm hues of the sun and the neutral colours of stone and water make it a versatile eye-catcher that radiates tranquillity without demanding attention.
