A warm light in the winter stillness by But First Framing

An illuminated Christmas tree stands on the banks of a winding stream in a tranquil winter landscape. Snow covers the banks, whilst dry grasses protrude here and there above the white blanket. Behind the tree, slender birches and dark clumps of trees slowly fade into the mist. The soft blue-grey sky enhances the serene atmosphere.

Small, golden-yellow lights twinkle amongst the dark green branches. Their warm glow falls upon the snow and is reflected back in the dark water. That reflection connects the tree with the stream and lends the wintry scene an inviting quality. It feels like a hidden spot where, for a moment, nothing needs to be done and the world comes to a standstill.

It is precisely this simplicity that makes this work special. A modest string of lights brings warmth to the cold landscape. Around the tree, the colours remain subdued, ensuring that the small points of light take centre stage. The delicate, painterly texture and the soft transitions in the distance enhance the dreamlike atmosphere. The result is a tranquil winter scene in which nature and festivity come together. The work evokes the feeling of a quiet December evening, with room for wonder and a touch of nostalgia.
