Amaryllis is a genus of plant in the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae). The only two species are common in winter rainfall areas of southern Africa. According to today's botanical systematics, the "Amaryllis" sold in the garden trade, especially during Advent and Christmas, is a member of the genus Hippeastrum (delphiniums).
