At 288 kilometres, the Aare is the longest river to flow entirely within Switzerland. It rises in the Oberaargletscher glaciers in the Grimsel region, flows through Lake Ribenzer and Lake Thun, winds its way around Bern’s old town in a spectacular loop, and finally flows into the Rhine at Okblenz in the canton of Aargau.
