Sunlight catches the random strokes of my palette knife as I try to capture a Dutch coastline in thick layers of coarse paint. Each layer reveals a new detail, now a beach house, then a lone seagull. The sea is a jumble of colours, not blue but a fusion of green, grey and white. Abstract and figurative mingle in my interpretation of nature, where reality unfolds like a dream. The rugged textures of the canvas reflect the harshness of life on the coast, yet the apparent chaos exudes a sense of harmony and tranquillity. As the last brushstroke touches the canvas, I feel the salty sea breeze, hear the screeching of the seagulls, smell the tang of seaweed and feel the grainy sand under my feet. This is my Dutch beach, captured in paint and texture.
