Agia Triada, Paxos by Nop Briex

I only come here to paint in spring or autumn; the summers are far too hot here in this little alleyway in Gaïos. But it remains beautiful: the Church of Triada. According to historical documents and information leaflets inside the church, the building originally stood on a small, isolated islet off the coast. Over the centuries, however, the surrounding sea has been partially reclaimed and land has been created to expand the harbour.

As a result, the church now stands right in the heart of the lively, pedestrian-friendly centre of Gaios Marina, right next to a lovely bakery. The architecture and features of the Triada Church are immediately recognisable by its distinctive appearance and architectural details:

Striking colours: The church has an exterior painted in bright pink and white.

The bell tower (Belfort): The tower is built in a typical Ionic style and has two storeys. The lower level houses two bells, whilst the narrower upper level has a single bell, crowned with a metal cross.

Three doors: The bell tower is strategically positioned above one of the entrances and features three arches/doors.

The interior of the church is traditionally and modestly furnished with wooden panelling and benches along the walls. The back wall is adorned with a row of impressive icons and religious paintings depicting various biblical scenes.
