The Aldabra Tortoise is one of the largest giant tortoises in the world. This gentle giant eats mostly plant matter. The turtle lays eggs in a shallow pit, which it then seals. The young come to the surface at the beginning of the rainy season, when there is plenty of food. The turtle has no teeth, but its beak is a kind of beak. With the hard edge it can cut off plants. Per day, it is active for about four hours, when it searches for food. The rest of the day it rests in the shade.
