Alexander Max Koester (February 10, 1864 in Neustadt (now Bergneustadt) in the Bergisch Land, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany; December 21, 1932 in Munich, Bavaria) was a German painter. The duck was his subject of study. He painted his duck motif in a variety of ways. Because of his fascination with ducks, he studied their anatomy and soon learned their behavior.
