Allium (ornamental onion) is a genus of plants in the garlic family, known for their bulbous, often large flowers in colours such as purple, blue, white and yellow, and also includes edible varieties such as onion, garlic and chives. Ornamental onions are planted in autumn (September-December) and bloom in early summer, right after most spring bloomers, making them a beautiful addition to gardens and borders.
