An empty room with a piano

by Kirsten Scholten

An old piano with its inner workings on display stands next to a collection of abandoned theatre seats. Soft daylight streams in through the tall arched windows. The light reveals peeling paint, ornate door frames and the patterns on the ceiling. High above the windows and doors, colourful paintings form a striking contrast to the weathered auditorium.

In my urban exploration photography, I am drawn to places where the former beauty is still visible. For me, this lies in the combination of the fragile piano, the faded chairs and the grand architecture. Together, they evoke a sense of the life that once filled this space.

The photograph evokes a sense of silence and curiosity. Who sat here, what music was played, and what happened behind those double doors? The image leaves room for the viewer to imagine their own story.

The warm beige and cream tones, the weathered wood and the muted pink chairs give this photograph a soft, nostalgic feel. As wall art, the piece complements natural materials, antique furniture and a tranquil interior beautifully. A special image for lovers of music, old architecture and the beauty of abandoned places.
