The Staal apartment building is a striking architectural feat in Deventer's bustling Havenkwartier (harbour quarter). This colourful complex, designed by BURO DUCK B.V., consists of four striking building sections playfully connected to each other. The industrial surroundings of the old harbour and the historic centre serve as inspiration for the design, resulting in a unique mix of modern living and industrial charm.
Architecture and layout
The building houses 18 rental flats and 20 owner-occupied flats, as well as commercial spaces on the ground floor. The facades, balconies, staircases and passages bring the industrial atmosphere to life in a surprising way, with a nod to the former car garage 'Bella Macchina' which has been integrated into the project.
Sustainability and comfort
The flats are equipped with modern features, including heat pumps and WTW ventilation, contributing to the high energy label A+ or higher. The spacious, self-contained 2-room flats of about 40 m² are fully finished.
Surroundings
Located between the river IJssel and the harbour, with the historic centre around the corner, Staal offers a unique living experience in a lively city district that combines living, working and culture. The project contributes to the transformation of the Havenkwartier into a quirky and creative neighbourhood, perfectly in keeping with the character of the Hanseatic city of Deventer.
