Every year, migratory birds flock here to Katwijk beach from the Antarctic.
The arctic tern breeds mainly in arctic regions and winters in the Antarctic, flying fifteen to twenty thousand kilometres from its breeding ground. And in spring, they cover that distance again. Each year, one Arctic tern flies around the world (on migration alone). This makes them like the champions among migratory birds.
