his work opens up a terrain of colour, structure and gesture. In the midst of earthy brown tones and golden ochre surfaces, a strong blue flashes - like water making its way through rock. Dark areas hold the picture together, giving it weight and depth, while light-coloured areas shine like islands of light.
This is impasto painting, in which the colour is applied impasto. The thick, relief-like surface reinforces the impression of movement and materiality: light refracts off the raised areas, shadows condense in the recesses. This creates an almost sculptural effect - the painting not only invites you to look at it, but also to feel it with your eyes.
The atmosphere fluctuates between earthiness and departure - as if a landscape were in flux, captured in a single, intense moment. The viewer is invited to discover their own memories and images in these layers.
