No fewer than 827,000 units of the first-generation Audi 100 were sold, including 30,687 coupés. This means that the coupé was not the big hit at Audi after 6 years of construction from 1970-1976. But 14.400 DM was a proud price at that time and Opel Manta or Ford Capri were considerably cheaper. So no bread and butter car for the sports car-friendly average consumer. And an initial average consumption of up to 17 l/100 km was not exactly a selling point in the middle of the oil crisis at the beginning of the 1970s. Without a register carburettor, the carburettor was only 13.5 litres of petrol per 100 km and instead of 115 hp, only 112 hp was available, but even that was still enough for a top speed of 185 km/h.
Thus the 1st Audi Coupé with Italian design in the style of a Fiat Dino remained something for individualists and therefore also today extremely rarely to be seen on German streets and their vintage car meetings. By the way, at that time still sold and offered under the company name Audi NSU Auto Union AG.
