Autumn colours in the Allgäu

by Walter G. Allgöwer

In the clear light of an autumn morning, a panorama unfolds from the Fellhorn that seems like a quiet breath of the Allgäu Alps. The meadows below the summit already bear the warm golden hue of the season, dotted with the last of the summer grasses, which rustle softly in the wind. Above them, the landscape rises in broad, tranquil lines until it converges in the rugged forms of the mountains – a transition from softness to stone, from near to far.
The Großer Krottenkopf stands dark and dignified in the light, a massive guardian of the Hornbach range. Beside it stands the Kratzer, more angular, almost shy, yet imbued with a delicate clarity in the autumn light. Further back rises the Zentrale Hauptkamm, where the Trettachspitze and the Mädelegabel jut out like two ancient, sharply defined silhouettes from the depths of time. And to the left, slightly set apart, the Kanzelwand, which gently guides the gaze back down into the valley.
A sense of vastness and tranquillity pervades the scene. The mountains seem to be pausing for a moment before winter casts its first shadows. A quiet, luminous moment in the Allgäu – carried by light, altitude and the quiet poetry of autumn.
